Happy news! Finland has been named the happiest country in the world for the ninth year in a row!

The World Happiness Report 2026 has once again ranked us at the top. Here in Helsinki, we are proud of this title. But in Finland, “happiness” isn’t simply about feeling joyful. It’s being satisfied with life overall. You might not always see big smiles on our faces, but we truly feel happy inside.

So, what makes us so happy? For us, happiness is simple. It’s about being content with life as it is. While the report looks at things like income, health, social support, freedom, and trust, one thing connects them all: education.

In Finland, education isn’t just learning facts. It’s the foundation of a fair and happy society.

• Wellbeing Comes First: Finnish schools focus on wellbeing, teamwork, and trust. Students learn to work together, not compete. This helps them feel they belong and can rely on others.
• Fair for Everyone: All students have access to high-quality education, free school meals, and less stressful testing. This creates a fairer society and reduces stress.
• Balanced Learning: Shorter school days, regular breaks, and outdoor activities help students grow in a healthy way. This leads to less anxiety and better mental health.
• Trusted Teachers: Finnish teachers are highly trained and respected. They are trusted to support each student in the best way possible.
• Life Skills for Independence: Students learn practical skills and how to make decisions for themselves. This gives them confidence and a sense of freedom.

In Finland, education isn’t simply about schools, it’s an investment in our future. By focusing on wellbeing, trust, and fairness, we create a happier and more sustainable society.
