Pedagogy-First AI: Smarter Teaching, Deeper Learning
The course engages teachers in analysing, improving and enhancing their teaching and students’ learning through hands-on engagement in practical usage scenarios of Large Language Models. The concept of this course follows the “pedagogy first” principle, as well as design thinking approach. The deeper technological or computational issues behind AI technology are addressed only briefly, as the focus is on AI-empowered methods of increasing the effectivness, efficiency and creativity of teachers’ everyday job. The course addresses various aspects of enhancing teacher’s pedagogical and digital competence with the help of various AI-tools, in accordance with European framework DigCompEdu. Participants learn how to use AI for communication and collaboration, learning resource design, classroom teaching and facilitating collaborative learning projects, assessment, inclusive and adaptive learning through practical examples, individual and group tasks and guidance from trainers. The course addresses critically also potential threats and ethical aspects of using AI in education.

What You’ll Learn:
Instead of long lectures, the experienced trainers will engage participants in hands-on individual and peer tasks, group discussions and design sessions to find creative, AI-enhanced solutions to problems the teachers might have in their everyday job. We also encourage and support participants to develop potential ideas and consortia for future Erasmus+ cooperation projects that involve innovative uses of AI in schools. By the end of the course, the participants will be able to:
- Understand AI in Education – Explain the potential and limitations of AI in education, focusing on how AI tools can support pedagogy, communication, collaboration, and assessment.
- Apply AI for Teaching & Learning – Use AI-powered tools to enhance lesson planning, instructional design, and classroom activities to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Enhance Digital Competence – Develop digital competence in line with the DigCompEdu framework, using AI for communication, collaboration, content creation, and adaptive learning strategies.
- Improve Assessment with AI – Design and implement AI-supported formative and summative assessment strategies to personalize feedback and track student progress effectively.
- Foster Inclusive and Adaptive Learning – Utilize AI tools to support differentiated instruction, addressing diverse student needs, including language barriers, disabilities, and varied learning paces.
- Critically Evaluate AI’s Ethical & Social Impact – Analyze ethical considerations, potential risks, and biases in AI applications for education, ensuring responsible and fair use.
- Develop AI-Augmented Creativity & Efficiency – Leverage AI to automate administrative tasks, generate creative teaching materials, and explore new ways to engage students in collaborative and project-based learning.
- Integrate AI into Professional Practice – Design and implement an action plan to integrate AI tools effectively into everyday teaching practices while maintaining a balance between human-led pedagogy and AI augmentation.
