The Digital Kids – Teaching Computational Thinking in Primary School course is focusing on teaching computational thinking in primary schools on attractive, playful and inclusive manner. This course has been inspired by two recent ErasmusPlus projects that involved University of Rijeka: GLAT: Games for Algorithmic Thinking and C4G: Coding for Girls. Some of the topics discussed in this course include computational thinking methodologies, best practices for computational thinking across Europe, designing pedagogical scenarios, gamified teaching and much more.

Target group are the school management, teachers, primary education teachers and all other non-teaching experts and staff working in school education.
The course covers a wide range of topics that schools need to consider and tackle when introducing/updating and securing digitalization in their school:
- Methodology for teaching and assessment of computational thinking in primary school
- Best practice approaches and practical examples for teaching Computational Thinking in different countries,
- Responsible and safe use of digital devices in classroom
- Creating interactive learning resources on Computational Thinking for classroom use and deliver them to students
- Designing, planning and composing pedagogical scenarios for teaching Computational Thinking
- Engaging girls in learning coding
- Gamified teaching of Computational Thinking in primary school
The course methodology aspires creating an output. Working individually or in groups on a concrete product to be used in your own school, such as learning scenario, lesson plan or other learning resource. During lectures and group discussions up-to-date knowledge, concepts, methodologies and examples from different countries are presented.
Earn a certificate
The course participants will get a Certificate of Active Attendance.
The competences acquired will be validated by the course organisers on the Europass mobility.

After working as a mathematics & physics teacher and school principal, he has been involved in teacher education and educational technology research for last 20 years. Mart has been contributing to international research projects focusing on the use of mobile technology and social software in teaching and learning. He is coordinating the training of school teams in the project “Digital Turn towards 1:1 Computing” funded by Samsung (www.samsungdigipoore.ee); and expert in school digital innovation and change.
